Canine Flu-Should You Be Worried?

With the H1N1 Virus potentially affecting a large percentage of the world's population, many pet owners are wondering if they should have their dogs vaccinated about the recently publicized Canine Influenza Virus.

Although many pet owners are vaccinating against this, you may want to do a bit more research and investigate all other options. Vaccinations, especially in older pets or those with compromised immune systems, can sometimes do more harm than good.

The Canine Flu should only be a concern for those whose dogs are in very close contact with other dogs, such as kennels. Most kennels are requiring this new vaccine before any dogs can be boarded. If you decide against vaccinating your pet, a wonderful alternative would be using a professional pet sitter. This would ensure that your pet would reduce their chances of encountering the virus by staying in the comfort of their own homes.

USA TODAY wrote a great article on the virus and new vaccination. You can read it by clicking HERE.
